Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Guidance for WISP Providers
Telecommunications Role in Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence
WISPAU recognises the critical role the telecommunications sector plays in protecting consumers affected by domestic, family and sexual violence.
For those who are victims and survivors of domestic and family violence, a mobile phone or internet service can be a lifeline, but also a tool of control, and the financial hardship often facing those escaping a violent situation can impact their ability to pay bills and access telecommunications services.
ACMA Releases Guidance Document for Service Providers
The ACMA has published this guidance to support telcos in implementing the Telecommunications (Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Consumer Protections) Industry Standard 2025.
The guidance:
- sets out our expectations for compliance with the Standard
- clarifies key concepts
- addresses questions raised by industry
- includes case studies to help telcos understand how to meet their obligations in practice
- training requirements for telecommunications staff in regards to DFSV

WISPAU Provides Templates and Training Guidance to WISPs
WISPAU has also provided WISP members with guidance policies, templates and training information that can be viewed in the Members downloads section.
It is important that all WISP providers review their obligations under the industry standard and assist by implementing policies that outline resources and ways that the WISP industry can support customers if they are affected by domestic or family abuse.
