ACMA 5 Year Outlook

The ACMA has released its 5 year spectrum outlook online

The implementation on AWL’s for 3.4-4Ghz has been a significant improvement for the WISPs in areas looking to deliver defined local service areas across these frequencies without the significant cost imposed of a spectrum auction covering larger coverage areas. The AWL model implemented (also on the 26-28Ghz) by ACMA is a welcome improvement for WISPs and has allowed competition and development in areas where once the previous cost and issues to access the spectrum were prohibitive.

However, it is noted that further work and discussions is being followed up in the 6Ghz spectrum.

With access to this additional spectrum, WISPs can enhance the throughput of their networks. This is especially important for delivering high-speed internet services to both residential and business customers in Australian regions. The spectrum is crucial to meeting the growing demand for high-speed internet services. The significance of the 6GHz spectrum lies in its potential to offer additional bandwidth and reduced interference, contributing to improved wireless connectivity.

It cannot be understated the importance of allowing WISPs access to this spectrum to deliver improved network services and drive market competition for broadband services across all areas of Australia.

WISPAU looks forward to the ongoing discussions of the 6Ghz spectrum with the ACMA with a view that WISPs will be able to deliver improved high speed services in Australia via this spectrum.
