Regional Telecommunications Review 2024

The 2024 Regional Telecommunications Review has now commenced.

The Regional Telecommunications Review occurs every 3 years and is an opportunity to examine the existing and future telecommunication needs in regional, rural and remote communities across Australia.

The Minister for Communications, the Hon Michelle Rowland MP, has announced the appointment of the 2024 Regional Telecommunications Independent Review Committee (the Committee), led by the Hon Alannah MacTiernan, as Chair. Mr Ian Kelly, the Hon Fiona Nash, Dr Jessa Rogers and Ms Kristy Sparrow have also been appointed to the Committee.

You can read more about the announcement here.

The Committee has been asked to examine the adequacy of regional Australia’s telecommunications, including hearing from people in regional, rural and remote parts of Australia.

You can find out more about how the Committee will do this in the Terms of Reference . The Committee will present its findings to the government by 31 December 2024.

To find out more about the Review see the Telecommunications (Consumer Protection and Service Standards) Act 1999 (the Act).

Information about past reviews can be found at Regional Telecommunications Review.

The Review is undertaken every three years and is an opportunity for Australians living and working in rural, regional and remote communities to share their views and experiences using telecommunications services. The Review will also work with industry to consider regulatory settings and map solutions to improve regional communications.

In undertaking its Review, the Committee will closely examine barriers that may mean people in regional, rural and remote parts of Australia do not have equitable access to telecommunications services as compared to services available within urban areas.

The review and subsequent findings have an important part in shaping and developing Government policy and outcomes.

WISPAU encourages members to be involved in the review. For updates on the review, please consult the website – https://www.rtirc.gov.au/
